Description: Qualitative interviews from 45 mins to 1 hour (n=26) with marine ecotourism operators (wildlife = 11), sea kayak (=2), Waka (=1), surf (=1), marine learning (=1), small scale cruise (=1), various marine activities (=2), fishing (=1) and dive/snorkel (=6). Four of the 26 operators were Maori. A geographic spread of operators across New Zealand\'s regions bar Manawatu-Whanganui where no operators were available. The interviews covered, business characteristics, challenges and opportunities (pre, during, post Covid-19), what success looks like, perceived changes to the local marine environment (positive and negative), community and environmental impacts of the business and perceptions of what more could be done to help the environment, the sector and new entrants.
