Description: A modelling framework for calculating power produced from large tidal turbine farms which can be used with an existing hydrodynamic model. The framework optimises turbine tuning to maximise average farm power output. The framework was applied to Cook Strait to assess how many turbines are required to produce a given amount of power. The framework places virtual turbines into the hydrodynamic model, runs the model to steady state and then calculates their power output. It then searches for the maximum power output by tuning the virtual turbines. Data files for many possible farm sizes and shapes were created in NetCDF file format, based on a SCHISM hydrodynamic model of Cook Strait (Sustainable Seas project IF2.2.2.6)
